A small, executable ledger for testing post-quantum authorization and monetary rules. Built to make progress reviewable.
What you can run today
| Component | Implemented | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction authorization | ML-DSA-65 through PyCA cryptography; network-bound signing context | Encrypted local wallet CLI implemented; no production wallet or security audit |
| UTXO ledger | Ownership, value conservation, maturity and block validation | Single-process local ledger with SQLite persistence and startup replay |
| Monetary accounting | Height-based reward and integer fee burning | Proposed parameters, development network only |
| Mining software | CUDA scanner source, verifier and synthetic memory probe | Baseline and 4 GiB probe verified on RTX 3050; no final PoW |
| Validation | 49 passing server checks and a four-block transfer/replay demo | Same-implementation replay; no independent node interoperability |
Run the local ledger
Extract the source package and open its boreal-starter directory. Use Python 3.11 or newer and a project-local virtual environment. The demo generates ephemeral keys and exports no private keys.
python3 -m venv .venv .venv/bin/python -m pip install -r devnet/requirements.txt .venv/bin/python -m devnet.demo .venv/bin/python -m unittest -v devnet.test_ledger
On Windows, use .venv\Scripts\python.exe. The C++ hash compatibility case skips unless the reference executable is built; see the package README. The current 49-case server run includes that check, plus wallet, inbox and miner-job coverage.
The transaction demonstration
The demo mines three development blocks, signs a one-coin transfer using ML-DSA-65, includes it in a fourth block, and replays the exported chain in a fresh ledger instance.
| Created through development rewards | 40 development coins |
|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 0.01 development coin |
| Burned fee portion | 0.0025 development coin |
| Outstanding supply after the demo | 39.9975 development coins |
These balances have no monetary value. This is a reproducible software exercise, not a live block explorer.
GPU research targets
RTX 5090, H200 and B300 are explicit performance targets. The research direction is memory-bandwidth-oriented work with deterministic integer operations and multiple independent nonce streams. A shared 20 GiB dataset remains a candidate. Baseline and synthetic probe measurements now exist on an RTX 3050. No result on the target hardware or ASIC resistance has been established.
The delivered synthetic memory probe does not generate a cryptographically secure DAG. Its entries can be cheaply recomputed. It measures a workload; it does not prove memory hardness.
Local wallet and miner tools
The source release now includes encrypted wallet creation, public address and balance, signed transaction submission, persistent receipts and a bounded CPU miner job/solution CLI. Read devnet/README.txt and miner/JOBS-v1.md in the archive for reproducible commands. These tools remain trusted-local development software.
What comes next
- Measure real GPU workloads and verifier cost across hardware.
- Specify final proof of work, serialization and difficulty adjustment.
- Extend persistent local state toward peer networking, fork choice and reorgs.
- Build a wallet and pool integration for a valueless public testnet.
- Obtain independent security review before a mainnet decision.
Interoperability roadmap
Ethereum, Solana and Bitcoin interoperability is now a separate research track with escrow, replay/finality and backing-invariant requirements. Read the architecture and current limits →
